CESAS has extensive experience in the construction of reinforced structures for transport infrastructure and the water industry for bridges, ports and treatment works. CESAS is also heavily involved in the construction of foundations for wind turbines. To date it has constructed foundations for 389 wind turbines on 23 wind farms throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

PD Ports, Teesport Berth 1 Phase 3

Middlesbrough

Project Description:

Construction of a replacement suspended concrete jetty structure. The main contractor, McLaughlin & Harvey, demolished the existing quayside and installed new tubular steel piles with a sheet piled cut-off wall to the toe of the existing revetment. CESAS contract was to install a new concrete deck of a series of precast beams and deck slabs which were overlain / infilled with insitu concrete. The entire area was then overlain with a brush finish concrete screed. Significant cast-in items included crane rails, panzer belts, fenders and general quayside furniture such as bollards. Successful completion of Phase 3 led to the award of additional works comprising 4000sqm concrete hardstanding and associated drainage between the new quayside and existing storage shed.


Rivers Agency, Flood Alleviation Structures

Project Description:

We upgraded a storm water culvert in Whiteabbey including a new outfall channel to Belfast Lough. This covered the closure of a residential street and the installation of a pre-cast concrete culvert into the road with buried insitu upstream and downstream transition structures.
In Carrickfergus we replaced a storm water grill structure to the Buskin Burn with a new RC structure with steel grill.
At Global Point Business Park in Newtownabbey we replaced a pre-cast concrete pipe culvert and upgraded the system with a Hydrobrake and new outfall structure.


Scottish Water Sewage Treatment Works Structures

South central Scotland

Project Description:

CESAS worked with Farrans an Scottish Water on a series of bundled projects over a four year period. They consisted of sewage works upgrades in Strathclyde and Lothian and new combined storm overflow structures within the streets of Glasgow City Centre such as Clyde Place. The projects meant diverting sewage flows and around live sewage and working in confined spaces. These technically challenging structures were undertaken in deep cofferdams within the city streets with our formwork design taking account of sheet pile support design and fitting around large pre-cast concrete pipes.


Kilgallioch Wind Farm Turbine foundations

South Ayrshire

Project Description:

Construction of 96 20m diameter turbine foundations with site assembled bolt cage inserts in 9 months in the mountains of south-west Scotland. The project consisted of the tying of 5260 tonnes of steel reinforcement and placement of 40800m³ of concrete. The formation of the plinth section of the foundation was facilitated by the use of bespoke steel formwork.
In addition to the foundations CESAS constructed the piers for an on-site access bridge and the foundations for the meteorological monitoring masts and the foundations for the 96 switchgear units at each foundation.


Aikengall Wind Farm Turbine foundations

East Lothian

Project Description:

Construction of 19 reinforced concrete wind turbine foundations with site assembled bolt cage inserts. These large foundations consisted of 606m³ concrete and 82 tonnes of steel reinforcement in each one. The 600m³ concrete pours were achieved using 2 concrete pumps over 12 hours.
